OHIO’s Kennedy Lecture Series and Frontiers in Science Lecture Series announce 2017-18 speakers

he Ohio University Kennedy Lecture Series and Frontiers in Science Lecture Series are honored to bring three world-renowned speakers to the Athens Campus this year: American journalist and former White House photographer Pete Souza; political activist and feminist organizer Gloria Steinem; and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Elizabeth Kolbert.

Pete Souza is an award-winning photojournalist and former chief official White House photographer for President Obama and director of the White House photo office. Souza also served as assistant professor of photojournalism in the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University and previously served as official White House photographer for President Reagan.

Souza’s talk entitled, “Eyewitness to History: Photographs Capturing the Presidency of Barack Obama,” will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public. No tickets are necessary, and limited space is available on a first come, first serve basis.

Gloria Steinem is a writer, lecturer, political activist and feminist organizer. She is a trailblazer for women’s rights and a leader of the second wave feminist movement. Steinem co-founded New York Magazine and Ms. Magazine, and remained an editor for the latter for 15 years. She is a best-selling author of many books with her most recent book titled “My Life on the Road.” She has been published in New York Magazine, Esquire, The New York Times Magazine and women’s magazines and publications worldwide. She is a founding member of the Women’s Action Alliance, the National Women’s Political Caucus, Women’s Media Center, Voters for Choice, URGE and is the founding president of the Ms. Foundation for Women.
